Sequence Data Base Alternatives

I'm trying to get a handle on all the different sequence data bases
that are available, and which ones one needs to subscribe to in order
to be as up-to-date as possible.  I'm aware of GenBank, EMBL, NBRF,
and Swiss-Prot, but someone here told me that the very best data
base comes out of Japan.  Can anyone give me the scoop on this
subject?  I'm new to the net; if this is a re-hash of an old discussion
then respond to me rather than the net.  Thanks.
