        The best program I have used for sequence extraction is "ACNUC".
It works with a preformatted database on PIR and Genbank sequence data.
It allows you to select by "features" such as 5' regions only , performs
keyword seach and extraction, species selections, and creates lists
of sequences. Extraction can go directly into GCG format or plain
vanilla textfiles that can be used quickly for multiple alignment
in clustal. I cannot stress enough how useful this program is!
