The problem with internet addresses are
(a) there are too many tables, not
one or a few. There is *software* that looks thru the tables at
some common network information sites, which will automatically move
on to other tables if not found at the first place. This software
is generally called "nslookup" on unix machines. The tables frequently
(b) numbers can, and do, change while the names rename the same.
For instance, the archive at ftp.bio.indiana.edu will move from
internet address 220.127.116.11 to address 18.104.22.168 in the near
So if possible, use the internet names, not numbers.
BTW, here are the addresses you asked for. Macpattern, prosite, and
prosearch files are also to be found on ftp.bio.indiana.edu. I don't
know why Archie doesn't list this site, as it used to be rummaging thru
the files here.
