Software for bootstrapping psychometric and dose-response curves

     BOOTSTRAPPING PSYCHOMETRIC AND DOSE-RESPONSE CURVES

  We have received a number of requests for a PC-based
version of a bootstrapping program for the analysis of
binary stimulus-response / dose-response data. In psychophysics,
the program can be used to analyze psychometric functions, and
in biological assay, to analyze dose-response curves.
   The program estimates the standard deviations and confidence
intervals of the threshold (= mean effective dose) and the
gradient (and 1/gradient) of a cumulative Gaussian
distribution fitted to the data.  The bootstrap procedure
is superior to the traditional asymptotic methods of
probit analysis when applied to small-to-medium data
sets.  Details are given in Foster, D.H. and Bischof, W.F.
(1991) "Thresholds from psychometric functions:
superiority of bootstrap to incremental and probit
variance estimators." Psychological Bulletin, 109, 152-
159.
  The PC-based version is written in Ansi C and should run
acceptably fast on a 286 with maths coprocessor or on an
equivalent machine.
