2D->3D image reconstruction soft request

Hi Netters,

On the behalf of my wife I'm asking for ANY information
about software which is capable to input some number
of 2-dimensional (probably contour) images (supposed
to be microscopic photos scanned to some of the standard
formats and re-edited to reproduce only specific object-
representing image part) and to convert them to the most 
probable 3D representation of the object. Repeat, original
images supposed to be only (different) 2D contours and final 
object expected to reproduce only common 3D surface profile.

I have some ideas about how corresponding algorithms could 
work but have not enough (free) time to create such soft by 
myself. As for requested ready soft, it may be even absent 
in any (free or comm) distribution... Any comments would be 
highly appreciated.
