Job Opportunities in Biotechnology Informatics -- Baltimore, MD
Molecular Tool Inc., a small, young, and aggressive biotechnology company,
seeks computing professionals to develop a complete Laboratory Information
Management System for large scale genetic testing applications. All positions
require a flexible and pragmatic "can-do" attitude and the ability to work with
and learn new technologies quickly.
The company has a strong commitment to heterogeneous systems and Rapid
Application Development through the use of a variety of top quality development
tools. We also require the ability to work with and integrate many different
hardware platforms and software tools in a highly technical environment.
Experience in Biotechnology or Biomedical environments is a big plus for these
positions.
Senior Scientific Programmer
Duties will include laboratory database and user-interface development,
implementation of analytical tools, systems integration, and laboratory
personnel support. Duties will also include coordination of larger software
development projects within a small team and some systems design.
For this position, you must have a wide breadth of computing and software
development experience in scientific or engineering environments. To be
considered for this job you must have all of the following:
- Five years of scientific software development experience, and an MSCS or
equivalent experience. Post-Docs are strongly encouraged to apply as well.
- Software development team and project management experience.
- Fluent C/C++ programming skills, particularly for graphical user-interfaces,
SQL databases, and numerical methods.
- Both MS-Windows GUI development experience and Unix development experience.
Macintosh development experience a plus.
- Experience programming in one or more Object-Oriented dynamically typed
languages (e.g. Smalltalk, Lisp/CLOS, or similar). Ability to work with
existing Fortran, Pascal, and Basic code as well.
- Experience using, customizing, and integrating higher-level tools for SQL
database access, reporting, and statistics on Macintosh and PC.
- BSCS level fluency with statistics and numerical methods.
- Extensive experience with Novell, AppleTalk, and TCP/IP networking in mixed
environment of Macintosh, PC, and Unix systems.
Scientific Programmer

technical skills in a variety of areas:

- MS-Windows GUI development experience, and either Unix and/or Macintosh
development experience.

Contract Programmer
3-6 month full-time position. You must have very strong demonstrated technical
skills:
- Fluent C/C++ programming skills for MS-Windows GUI and SQL/Server client
development. Experience with other Windows and SQL/Server development tools a
plus (e.g. PowerBuilder, VB, Report Generators, etc.)
- Experience using, customizing, and integrating higher-level tools for SQL
database access, reporting, and statistics on Macintosh and PC.
Contract Systems Integrator/Administrator/Engineer
Up to 6 month full-time position. Duties will include the set-up,
documentation, and administration of:
- A SQL database server accessible through both named-pipes and IP sockets.
Windows-NT is the likely platform.
- A Unix system with a direct Internet connection. Setup of Internet news
spooling and SMTP based WAN E-mail.
- A highly integrated PC and Mac E-mail client system.
- AppleShare and Novell servers.
- PC and Mac network nodes with AppleTalk, IPX and TCP/IP support.
- Thorough TCP/IP security on all systems in an Internet environment.
- Automated backups of all systems.
- Implementation and testing of a disaster recovery plan.
