data base progs

my wife is using PC Gene and is bumping against some limitations. one of
her files has about 12,000 bases and the program keeps dumping her to DOS
when she tries to edit. short of splitting the file, which she doesnt'
want to do, are there any other progs out there for DOS machines that'll
do restriction anaylsis, maintain the data n such?
(any suggestions n phone numbers?)
