leaf area measurement

I need to measure leaf areas from scanned leaf images.  Does anyone 
have, or know where I can get, a program that makes object area (and 
dimension?) measurements from graphics files on a PC?  If the program 
could estimate the amount of damage in holes etc, that would be a plus.
