Counting a character in MS-Excel (Mac)

Another simpler and clumsier alternative is to simply sort the column
of letters. Then all the A's will come first, the C's next, and so on.
You can then just look at where the A's end, and that's how many A's
there were. Alternatively, there are a bunch of Excel functions under
the heading "Text". Maybe one of those will convert a character to a
number. Finally, you could try searching and replacing every instance
of A with a 1, then sum the column, then do the same for C, and so on.

Good luck.
