Help: Sequence assembly program needed (PC)

Does anyone out there have a recomendation or a FTP location for a sequence assembly program?
I'm using PCgene, but it is having memory problems, and I really need to get this done.
Public domain software would be the best, but I'm not adverse to spending a few hundred dollars if the program is superior.

Any information would be greatly appreciated,
