Version 2.0 of GAS is now available.  The initial distribution is via WWW
from address:

		http://info.ox.ac.uk/~ayoung/gas.html

It can also be obtained by anonymous FTP from

GAS is currently compiled for the following machines/operating systems

 Other platforms possible by arrangement.  

  Each version comes with a complete.  Comprehensive manuals and many example
and demonstration files are available with the package.

Amongst the main improvements to the previous public release (1.4) are:

 * Expanded manuals with more examples

 * Direct graphical output of results using Postscript (use `set psfile')
 
 * Sib-pair IBD interval mapping for quantitative traits - sibihe();

 * Locus ordering option (tested upto 250 loci simultaneously) - sibmap();

 * 2-point lodscores calculations - lik2point();

 * Ability to `repair' pedigrees by deducing some missing genotypes

 * Sib-pair IBD interval mapping for categorical traits - sibides();
 
 * Lodscore maps with maximization and exclusion options - likmap();

 * Lange's Z statistic for IBS sib-pair analysis - sibstate();

 * Option to test association of allele presence/absence - assmwu();

 * Improved inheritance checking of data

 * 2-locus IBD MLS routine - sib2mls();

 * Haplotype frequency analysis for children - hapchild();
 
 * Inter-group association comparison test - asscompare();

 * Extended sib-pair test for analyzing half-siblings - sibdes();
 
 * Improved algorithms for global `alsize' binning

The lodscore routines lik2point() and likmap() utilize a beta version of the
`Vitesse' likelihood engine devised by Jeff O'Connell.  This is a very cool
program capable of fast simultaneous 8-point lodscores with highly polymorphic
markers.

 * the sib*reg(); routines have been superceded by sibhe(); and sibihe();

 * sibqmwu()/sibdmls() have been enhanced and renamed to sibmwu()/sibmls();

Two bugs (in 1.4) were found and exterminated during the upgrade:

[] assgenorr : miscount in some allele frequencies, so that relative risks
were incorrect by (upto) a factor of 2.

[] dissect locus : for QTL distribution of subjects across normalized parameter
range, the scale was shrunk so that all the subjects fitted into the first 9/10
