                     BLOCK v0.1.2
                COMPLEX PEDIGREES
Version 0.1.2 of 'block' (pedigree and linkage analysis in large
complex pedigrees) is now available.
New in this version
In this version, a few bugs have been fixed, e.g., some errors in
the example pedigrees, debug messages have been removed and a
bug that made 'theta' crash when given an illegal option.
Furthermore, it is now possible to specify sex with 1 and 2,
instead of m and f, making the pedigree format more compatible
Barren nodes are now automatically forward sampled, making 'block'
use less memory. With the new option, '-f', forward sampling of
barren nodes can be switched off.
'block' is now distributed for the IBM RS/6000 AIX 3.2.5 architecture.
SPARC SunOS, Linux a.out, and FreeBSD are not supported anymore.
The program 'block' implements a method called blocking Gibbs
sampling. The method is based on the Markov chain Monte
Carlo method, Gibbs sampling, but combines this stochastic
method with exact local computations to get a method that
can successfully handle very large and complex (e.g., inbred)
pedigrees (thousands of individuals). The method allows the
user to test the presence of linkage between two genes.
As this is a relatively new program, there is bound to be errors
and other kinds of problems. All these should of course be reported
to me.

Sparc Solaris, IRIX 64, MS-DOS, and IBM RS/6000 AIX 3.2.5.
