The Nuages package by Bernard Geiger is probably the best (UNIX) tool for
reconstructing the 3D surface of an object of which only cross-sections
are available. Specificly, it can handle splitting (ie. 2 contours in
one cross-section and 2 in the next) very well.

Only problem is the lack of a user-interface. Input and output are
plain textfiles.
For a graphical user-interface (for UNIX) take a look at my Mvox software
package. Among the other things it does, it provides an interactive user-
interface for Nuages.
