Alignement of sequences in PC

Hello,
    I am a traditional biochemist with no hands experience in molecular
biology. Could you indicate a public domain software (downloadable by FTP) to
aling protein sequences and obtain identity and homology scores?. I work with a 
PC (DOS or Windows). I want to compare some protein sequences to some sort
(manually entered) motif sequences.


I would greatly appreciate any help
