The explosive application of combinatorial libraries has 
driven the demand for improved methods for rapid compound 
synthesis, particularly single compounds per well. Parallel 
synthesis is well suited to meet this requirement, but has 
necessitated rapid innovation of synthesis equipment and 
demand for resins that are more compatible with the range 
of reactions that chemists desire. While most of the attention 
has focused on the development of advances in solid-phase 
synthesis, novel approaches based on solution-phase or even 
combinations of these two approaches, are having an impact. 
As the level of activity and the quantity of material desired
increases, there is also greater demand for techniques that 
are able to carry out purification and analysis of such 
compounds. Each of these topics will be covered in detail, 
with workshops and exhibits also offered.
