   You could consider using the Qt toolkit from Troll Tech.  You'll find
more information at http://www.troll.no/products/qt.html

   In addition to the professional edition, Qt is also available in a 
"free" edition for the development of open source/non-proprietary 
software (see http://www.troll.no/dl/qtfree-dl.html)
