Bioinformatics support - Brassica Genomics

The Department of Brassica and Oilseeds Research at the John Innes
Centre (http://www.jic.bbsrc.ac.uk/science/brassica) is taking part in a
consortium, funded by the BBSRC IGF programme, to physically map the
Brassica A and C genomes. BAC contigs will be assembled by fingerprint
analysis software and anchored to the Arabidopsis genomic sequence and
Brassica genetic maps by hybridisation with selected probes.

Applications are invited for a 3 year post in Dr Martin Trick's group to
provide bioinformatics support to the consortium and to disseminate the
results to the research community. The successful candidate will set up
and support the fingerprinting databases, collate the hybridisation data
and automate their export into a publicly accessible ACEDB database. She
or he will also collaborate in defining the Arabidopsis anchor probe
set. The appointee will work closely with a bioinformatician developing
the BrassicaDB database and other key JIC bioinformatics staff.

Candidates should have a life sciences degree, experience (and
preferably a postgraduate qualification) in biological computing and be
familiar with the field of genomics. UNIX, shell scripting and Perl
experience are highly desirable, experience and/or interest in ACEDB and
WWW programming would be an advantage. Please make informal scientific
enquiries to Martin Trick (martin.trick at bbsrc.ac.uk).

Salary on appointment will be within the range £14,900 to £21,500
depending on qualifications and experience. Staff have the opportunity
to join a non-contributory superannuation scheme.

For an application form and further particulars write to the Personnel
Officer, John Innes Centre, Norwich Research Park, Colney, Norwich NR4
