	Vertebrate Comparative Genome Database
	--------------------------------------

The UK MRC HGMP Resource Centre is pleased to announce the release of
its Vertebrate Comparative Genome Database:

	http://www.hgmp.mrc.ac.uk/Comparative/home.html
	_______________________________________________

This vertebrate Comparative Database is presented with a World Wide Web
interface and brings together genetic homology data for a range of
species, currently all mammalian.

The data has been collated from a range of published sources, and
provides reported homologies with known human genes. It can be searched
by gene symbol, gene description, MIM number, cytogenetic location and
species, or the entire database can be displayed. Hypertext links are
provided into UK mirrors of GDB, MGD, and OMIM, and the Austrialian OMIA
database. A range of layout options are provided for displaying the
data.

The database can be found on the World Wide Web at the URL
http://www.hgmp.mrc.ac.uk/Comparative/home.html

These maps are based on the human-mouse files maintained at the Medical
Research Council Mammalian Genetics Unit, primarily by Drs. A. G. Searle
and Josephine Peters. The remaining species are mostly from files
available through WWW and collated by Prof. John Edwards.
In particular:

Rat	http://ratmap.gen.gu.se/
Cow	http://www.ri.bbsrc.ac.uk/bovmap/bovmap.html
Sheep	http://dirk.invermay.cri.nz
Pig	http://www.ri.bbsrc.ac.uk/tcagdb.html

Additional species arriving shortly include cat, chicken and fugu fish.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome by e-mail to
support at hgmp.mrc.ac.uk

The data can also be found on the Genatlas Genetic Interactive Database
(GID) CD ROM. For further details contact Prof. John Edwards by e-mail
at jhe at bioch.ox.ac.uk.
