Pickover, C. (1990) Computer experiments in molecular evolution.
Speculations in Science and Technology., 13(3): 181-191.
Below is the abstract:
"In this article I outline a simple computer program used to perform
experiments in molecular evolution. In particular, a program can be
written to generate RNA sequences, introduce mutations, and allow users
to observe the resultant folded RNA sequences and connections. The
experiments provide a teaching tool allowing students, teachers, and
researchers to follow the evolution of artificial RNA molecules of their
own choosing in both a qualitative and quantitative fashion."
