Transfection of unicellular organisms

Several groups have reported transfection of Dictyostelium
discoideum.  The first reports were out of Firtel's lab in
the early 1980's.  There was another (Nature cover story,
if my memory holds) on transfection with actin genes, perhaps
from Spudich's group.
