It is possible that the moon-sychronization theories
result from visual research purporting to demonstrate
that night vision in women is more acute around the time
of ovulation than at other times in the menstrual cycle.
One obvious (though not necessarily correct :-) inference
is that "in ancient times" ovulation co-incided with the
dark of the moon. Undoubtedly, more direct reasons may be
adduced.
