With respect to "hard data" and phosphor-imager output files, one approach
that we are currently implementing is to directly store the original data
files onto optical WORM cartridges. The original files can't be erased,
the storage media cost is relatively low per megabyte, and the lifetime
of the cartridges is expected to be at least 25 years. WORM drives are not
terribly cheap or fast, but they are nearly ideal from a data integrety
standpoint.
