See the Wall Street Journal of 17 or 18 Sept 1992, an article on Elsevier
and Reed PLC's merger. It was mentioned in PACS-L too. They noted that
margins on scientific journals are much higher than on trade magazines,
and that scientists are a captive market and have phenomenal renewal rates.
The other story was about Reed's president, who drives around in a Bentley.
