Dr. Tim Chipman of Acadia Univeristy (Canada) recently posed a question
on whether any one has used scanner to document gel pictures.
I have used regular Apple flatbed scanners to document the polaroid 667 pictures of agarose gels and polyacrylamide gels which were stained with silver. We lose
a little bit of resolution and clarity I think, but if you have a good gel, you
can live with this little loss. We import the image into Macintosh - Aldus
freehand, and it is very easy to write labels, molecular weights etc. With
more sophisticated image analyzers, you could also of course do more
sophisticated analysis with the gel data.
