Cheap (household) alternative to proto-slow??

Two other slowing agents are available (cheap) plus one that is more expensive.
Proto-slow is just methylcellulose (wall paper paste). You could buy a
lifetime supply at most hardware stores. Dilute heavy metals are pretty good,
too, but they do eventually kill the cells (a message for teaching). We
use 1% nickel sulfate, and lower dilutions would probably also work. A
product called DETAIN is also available. It is a visco-elastic polymer.
Works well but is light sensitive.
