There is a Kodak Pamhlet (# S-22) called Effective Lecture Slides
with some useful advises.
There are some of them.
- if you can read 2x2 slides without a magnifier, people in rear
seats can probably read them on the screen.
- use a dark-coloured background. It is better than black or white.
- limit each slide to 15-20 words, or 25-30 elements
-include titles to supplement, not duplicate, slide data
- use several simple slides rather than one complicated
and so on.
And there is also one reference:
Illustrations for Publications and Projection, ANSI Standard Y15.1-
1959.
