Not too sure about binomial nomenclature, but in the recent "Intervention"
series of books by Julian May (sequel to the Saga of the Exiles series) talk
was made for a long time about large areas of the northwestern wilderness
areas being preserves for the "Macropodes". This was all a bit of a mystery to
someone from Oz (macropods are kangaroos and wallabies, which, aside from the
occasional sighting in Dorset and Surrey, aren't normally found outside this
wdie brown land). It wasn't until the main character went camping there that
the penny dropped for this reader.
How about "Homo macropodis"
On a similar note, for hobbits, how about "Homo trichomacropodis"
I've got an idea that this is getting rather out of control
