I kinda agree if we use your rational, Plants are incredible organisms
with marvelous complexity and simpicity at the same time..and
if we look at sheer numbers of chromosomes for a measure
of complexity the Ophioglossum reticulatum has over 1,000
chromosomes in its somatic cells!
