Social evolution is a aloowed by traits of individuals, who comprise
any social unit; individual phenotypes for sociality are based on
the ability to to be social in the first place, which is ultimately
provided for in terms of genetic code, therefore social evolution has
a proximate (a social unit exists) origin as well as an ultimate (biological)
origin.
As to the purpose of life, I can only guess that life is a temporary failure
of entropy.
