Phylogeny of the possum

Can anybody tell me where I can find the genealogical names of the
North American Possum? What phylum, class, order etc. Is it a real
possum, or is that just the colloquial name? And by the way is it or is
it not a marsupial? This is the NA possum, not the Australian one. A
small mammal which looks like a big rat like creature for those of you
outside the US. And it is not the opossom. Oh and I've looked on Melvyl
and genbank and can only find the aussie one.
