Dear Al,
I crossposted this to methods and reagents...
GUITC is simply a very chaotropic reagent denaturing proteins and thereby
effectively inhibiting proteases and nucleases.
I dug out the following reference, maybe it is more authoritive (haven't
read it myself :))
