Permits and Portugal/Azores

I spoke to MAFF and the answer is no permit required. Why? 'Cos for once 
being a menber of the EEC actually works in our favour. No import permit is
needed to import soil or water smaples into the UK from any EEC country. One
may however need a permit to collect and remove those samples from the
collection country.
