According to Mitchell _et al._ Experientia 43 (1987) 382 on the likely
hereditary ability to produce malodorous urine, the product is methanethiol
(Nencki, Arch exp Path Pharmak 28 (1891 - yes 1891) 206) but the substrate
giving rise to it was not known.
