Today at our University library I met a colleague of mine ,
a retired botanist, interested in the history of biology.
He asked me
"Do you have an idea where I could find
out who first used the Latin expression

       Botanics = scientia amabilis ?"

His guess was the first usage dates back to the 18th century.
He wanted to know the exact source.
I could not help him. Can anyone out there? Or at least
suggest where and how he might continue searching.
