CALL FOR DISCUSSION: TIBS/bionet.journals.letters.tibs

A "journal club of the air" is an interesting idea. I think this proposal
is not a good idea, one because it promotes a single commercial entity for
greater than average net exposure, and two, moderation by that same
commercial entity is absolutely inappropriate. If Elsevier would like to
solicit and publish electronic letters to the editor a web site would be a
much more appropriate venue for them. Bionet should remain a venue for
unfettered scientific discussion. A proposal like this would be much more
interesting (to molecular biologists, for example) if it covered say
Science, Nature, Cell, and PNAS and were not controlled by the magazine
under discussion.
