Inheritance of Human Hair Color?

Just heard a lecture that described almost all possible types of Mendeilan
inheritance through cat coat properties (color, length, so on). I was just
wondering how human hair inheritance worked. I have some general idea of
the biochemical aspects (eu- and pheomelanins, melanocytes, and the like), but
I was wondering about the "phenotypic genetics" of it: what are the genes that
code for different shades of brown, what causes two-toned hair, how do
red and brown hair genes interact, how is scalp hair related to beards and
body hair, for example. (By the same token, my questions are not along the
lines of asking about individual genes for enzymes in the pathways.)
Any pointers to articles or books would be greatly appreciated--and a quick
rundown of how it all works would be wonderful. I never really read this
newsgroup, so I would appreciate direct e-mail. Thank you.
