Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and Scientific Research

Hi, my name is John Inglis and I am a second year university student doing a 
paper on Environmental Analysis. I was wondering if there is anyone out there, 
or anyone who knows someone that has had dealings with the Great Barrier Reef 
Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) regarding scientific research being carried out 
in the park. What I am looking for is opinions and experiences that people 
have had with the authority in terms of gaining acces to the park for 
scientific research.
The kinds of questions I'll be looking at would be:-
              How much of a hassle is it to gain access?
              What kinds of improvements could be made to the process?
              Are the restrictions imposed too restricting?
              Are there any costs involved (eg- permits etc) and are these 
              costs realistic?
              What are your general feelings about the authority and how it is 
               run?
              What improvements could be made to the act?

Any information concerning dealings with the authority would be greatly 
appreciated!!!!!!!
