antibody inhibition

sorry if this question is out of place.
I wasn't sure which group to post it to and 
since this one said general.....  :)

I need to know what the Antibody Inhibition Technique for determining
blood type is and if it is still in use.  If its not still in use,
why? Was it an inaccurate technique? Did some other method replace it?

I don't need a book or anything :) just a few informative sentences 
would be great.
