black squirrels

 Just another datapoint, for what it's worth:

  Having lived in New York City, southern Connecticut, and upstate
New York, the first time I ever saw a black squirrel was on my
first visit to Montreal.

  I also see them all the time in Toronto.

  I still don't recall seeing any on my visits back to the US.

  (Perhaps the squirrels haven't heard about the North American
   Free Trade Act..... :-)
