Information Appreciated

I am writer doing research for a fictional project and am attempting to
find a place on the net where I might find information about a
disease/illness that would/could:

A) Require an organ, blood, marrow (etc.) transplant that would either
have to come from a family member or only a small percentage of the
population (for example, the patient in need of the transplant might
have an extremely rare blood type that eliminates most donors).

B) Go into remission -- thus temporarily postponing the need for the
transplant.  However, should the illness flare up again, the transplant
would be mandatory.  In the case of remission, perhaps the transplant
would be postponed due to the extremely risky nature of the operation.

Any suggestions on where to look/who to ask?  I sincerely appreciate
any and all help.
