Two positions are immediately available in the Plant Cell
Technology Laboratory at the University of Guelph to conduct research
for developing disease-resistant geranium cultivars and
micropropagation methods, particularly via somatic embryogenesis and
artificial seeds. One position will involve the development of
protocols for regeneration and transformation of geranium cells with
the goal of isolating cells resistant to bacterial infection. The
ideal candidate will have experience with plant tissue culture
techniques, protoplast culture, transformation, molecular analysis
and assessment of disease.
The second position will involve characterization of metabolic
pathways for disease resistance and will encompass the isolation and
purification of the bacterial toxin to be used in screening of
cultures for resistance to disease development. For this position,
preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in
biochemistry, HPLC and GC analysis, maintenance of a stable bacterial
culture and isolation of metabolites as well as tissue culture
techniques.
All applicants must possess a Ph.D. in either biochemistry, plant
physiology, molecular biology or a related field and have a
demonstrated ability to design and conduct research independently.
Starting salary is $26,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Interested applicants should send a Curriculum vitae to:
