AGROECOLOGY
BOARD OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES:  SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
CENTER FOR AGROECOLOGY AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS 
 
The Board of Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa
Cruz invites applications for a senior position (Associate or Full
PROFESSOR) in  sustainable agriculture.  The successful candidate will also
serve half-time as DIRECTOR of the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable
Food Systems (CASFS).

The Board is an interdisciplinary program.  Current social science faculty
come from economics, political science, and geography; natural scientists
represent conservation and wildlife biology, restoration ecology, and
agroecology.  Teaching and research interests within the program include
agriculture, conservation of biodiversity, development, and public policy. 
The Board has a Ph.D. program.  The successful candidate will be expected
to provide intellectual and programmatic leadership in both the Board and
CASFS, maintain a  collaborative, extramurally funded research program, and
teach both disciplinary and interdisciplinary courses at the graduate and
undergraduate levels.

Applicants can be either natural or social scientists, but should have
interdisciplinary experience and knowledge in both the social and
scientific bases of agriculture/food systems.  Applicants should have a
strong research record, success in gaining extramural funding, experience
in on-farm and/or interdisciplinary research and in program-building.  The
successful candidate is expected to assume at least one multi-year term of
service as Director of the CASFS. 

RANK:  Associate to Full Professor 

SALARY:  $46,400-$69,800 (nine months), commensurate with experience and
level of appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:  Minimum qualifications for the position include a
Ph.D. or equivalent in a social or natural science or agricultural
discipline, experience in agricultural systems, excellence in teaching or
extension, a record of funded research, experience in interdisciplinary and
collaborative environments, and evidence of academic leadership.  We
especially encourage candidates with specialties in areas such as agronomy,
soil ecology, plant pathology or experience in regional or international
food systems.
