Dare I get a shot at this? 

Dihydrogen = H2; 
Monoxyde = O;
Dihydrogen monoxyde = H2O.

The "2" should be in subscript. Get it? Don't lose sleep over it (though 
water supplies MUST be monitored, kept clean and safe, etc.)
