	It should also be mentioned that besides glucose, many other 
saccharides like fructose,galactose, mannose,lactose ; polysaccharides 
like glycogen (in animals) and starch (higher plants and other) can, 
through modification, enter the glycolytic pathway. 

	Just as important as carbohydrate catabolism is the degradation 
of amino acids and lipids: both extremely important energy sources 
(lipids can be metabolized to produce more than twice the energy that any 
carbohydrate can, gram for gram).
