WORKSHOP: MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS OF BIOLOGICAL SEQUENCES
Trondheim, Norway, August 4 - 6, 1996
Life as we know it today is totally dependent on different types of
biological macromolecules such as DNA, RNA, and proteins. The nucleic
acid or protein sequence is a result of the molecular evolution that
has taken place over the last 3 billion years. Present day sequences
may contain fragmented or partially erased information about the
various stages of molecular evolution. Large scale projects such as
the Human Genome Project result in an ever growing number of genes for
which the sequence is known.
In recent years there has been an increasing interaction between the
biological and mathematical communities. The mathematical sciences
provide useful tools in the quest to uncover the embedded information,
which may reflect structural or organizational features or evolutionary
remnants.
We invite you to participate in a 3 day workshop scheduled for
August 1996 in Trondheim, Norway. Several prominent workers in the
field are invited to give lectures. In addition, we will select
presentations from abstracts/posters submitted by the participants.
During the workshop there will be time for discussions and informal
gatherings.
