Spam has nothing to do with content per se. Spam is a message posted to
many newsgroups at once, rather than being posted to the
content-appropriate newsgroup. Search "spam" with your browser and I'm
sure you'll find lots of sites devoted to stricter definitions of spam...

Not that there aren't content-specific complaints about what gets posted
to some newsgroups...
