Benefits and drawbacks of Unitary/Modular organism construction

Hello

I'm presently writing a report on the benefits and draw backs of an 
organism being unitary or modular in construction. As part of finals 
for my degree.  If you know of any relevant references of journals, 
thesis, or books that would be helpful, could you please let me know? 
I'm desperately trying to get references together, as it's a really 
important section of my course.
