Associate Director, Analytical Biochemistry
Job Description
This position will provide technical and tactical leadership for the
Biological Assay group within the Analytical Biochemistry department.
Technical areas include: immunoassay, electrophoresis, cell-based bioassay,
and SPR method development; assay development and automation, in-process
testing, and recombinant protein product characterization. In addition, the
candidate will provide performance management, coaching, and career
development to staff members so that their full potentials can be attained.
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
. Provide technical and tactical support to the group that result in the
resolution of technical or operational issues.
. Create presentations for outside scientific meetings and conferences
to continue to show the Company's scientific leadership in the biotechnology
field.
. Create, supervise the creation, and review of documents such as:
development reports, SOPs, validation protocols/reports, CMC regulatory
filings (IND, IMPD, BLA, etc.), and scientific journal publications.
. Assess, recommend, and develop new cutting-edge technologies for
improving efficiency of in-process testing and product characterization.
. Mentor and manage staff of approximately 30 scientists including
Ph.D., Masters, and Bachelors levels.
Job Requirements:
. Education: Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Immunology, or equivalent required.
. Experience: At least 5-10 years of experience in a biopharmaceutical
company with relevant experience in analytical method development,
optimization, troubleshooting, cGMP testing, and tech transfer.
. The successful candidate must also have significant experience with
method development, optimization, and troubleshooting for methods used in
the group for protein characterization, including:
> Cell-based bioassays and potency assays,
> Process-related impurity immunoassays,
> SPR assays,
> Laboratory automation, and
> Various electrophoretic assays (Bioanalyzer, SDS-PAGE, IEF, CE, cIEF, 2D,
Western blot, etc).
. Experience managing multiple direct reports is required.
