[Employment] Exciting Postdoctoral research opportunities in Tokyo, Japan

The Heddle lab in the recently established Global Edge Institute is
calling for applicants for postdoctoral fellowships in Japan
(including but not restricted to a 2 year JSPS (Japan Society for the
Promotion of Science fellowship)) to work in exciting new projects in
the bionanotechnology and synthetic biology fields using protein
engineering.

Research field: Protein engineering with applications to
nanoelectronics, and the design of novel therapeutic agents. A second
project will involve engineering and in vivo testing of mitochondrial
proteins. Additionally, candidates with a strong desire to carry out
their own research in a project that could be classified as protein
engineering/synthetic biology/bionanotechnology are also welcome to
apply. Note, the Lab and Institute`s working language is English.

Requirements: The primary requirement is for the candidate to have a
good knowledge of molecular biology (mutation, protein expression,
purification etc).   Depending on how the work progresses there will
be opportunities to learn X-ray crystallography, transmission electron
microscopy, manipulation of eukaryotic cells and more. Existing
expertise in one or more of these fields will be a bonus.

Further Opportunities: Depending on the project chosen, there is the
possibility of travel to partnering labs in Yokohama and Nara (near
Kyoto) and of collaborative work with the research laboratories of
Panasonic.

Closing Date: General applications are accepted at any time. JSPS
applications close in May 2007. Initial applications aiming for JSPS
funding  should be received before 10th April 2007. Successful
candidates will be expected by JSPS to take up their positions before
September 30th 2007.
