Biocompatibility Engineer
Overview: This position is responsible for assessing material changes
and understanding biologic, polymeric, and metallic delivery materials
and implants, and for identifying the appropriate biocompatibility
testing for new materials.
Responsibilities: 1. Works independently and/or within a team to
develop and assess issues related to the development of new or
improved medical products. 2. Recommends material testing using NMR,
IR, DSC, ESCA, SEM, GPC, and HPLC techniques. 3. Implements laboratory
procedures and policies relating to new material assessments and their
biocompatibility. 4. Provides timely information to product teams on
material issues which will affect the new product development. 5.
Prepares technical presentation relevant to material technologies. 6.
Assesses biocompatibility and aging test requirements for new
products. 7. Functions as a team member on product development teams.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Materials Science or M.S. in Materials
Science with 5 years experience within the medical device or closely
related industry.
1. Ability to concurrently handle a variety of projects. 2. Ability to
independently work with in-house and outside industry/academia to
maximize scientific outcomes. 3. Ability to independently work with
outside medical and technical professionals. 4. Skills in
communicating with all levels of technical and operating management.
4. Knowledgeable in problem solving concepts. 5. Ability to generate
test protocols and reports. 6. Comprehensive understanding of
regulatory environment (FDA and ISO 10993). 7. Comprehensive
understanding of GMP and GLP requirements. 8. Ability to understand
toxicological assessments. 9. Strong knowledge of material/tissue/
blood interactions. 10. Strong knowledge of common surface and
analytical analyses techiniques. 11. Knowledge of software application
skills. 12. Knowledge of general medical device process technology.
